Musimbi R.A. KANYORO (PhD)

Musimbi Kanyoro (born 30 November 1953) is an accomplished inspirational leader with extensive experience managing international non-governmental organizations, global programs and agencies in Europe, Africa and the US. A Kenyan human rights advocate, Musimbi served as the CEO and President of the Global Fund for Women from 2011 until 2019. Prior to that she worked as a Director of the Packard Foundation.

Between 1998 and 2007 she served as the General Secretary (CEO) of the World YWCA, the largest women’s membership movement with 25 million women and girls affiliates in 125 countries.

Musimbi is a frequently sought-after public speaker, and a passionate advocate for women and girl’s human rights, reproductive health and sustainable development. Kanyoro is published author.

Musimbi also serves with former President of Ireland Mary Robinson on several projects, including the Board of Directors of Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalization Initiative.

She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Texas in Austin and a Doctor of Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary; She was a visiting Scholar at Harvard Divinity School. Musimbi Kanyoro has received numerous awards and recognitions internationally. Musimbi has served on many Boards and continues to do so as part of her voluntary commitment to the issues she cares about.

Musimbi was integral to establishing the foundation for the partnership that is still thriving today between the World YWCA and Legacy, as well as StoryShare.
